Serious Doubts Over Safety Of Russia’s COVID-19 Vaccine, Says Anthony Fauci
Dubbed Sputnik V, the vaccine is being seen as a propaganda tool by most.
America’s top infectious disease expert and the face of the country’s anti-coronavirus fight Dr. Anthony Fauci has expressed doubts over the safety of Russia’s COVID-19 vaccine that was announced recently. Named Sputnik V, the vaccine was approved by Russian President Vladimir Putin before the crucial Phase 3 trials that are seen as incredibly important. Fauci said, “I hope that the Russians have actually definitively proven that the vaccine is safe and effective. I seriously doubt that they’ve done that.”
The development is being by seen as a propaganda move to portray Russia as a global scientific force. After all, the country had enacted a law in April that eliminated the requirement for crucial Phase 3 trials to be conducted before the approval of vaccines. Moreover, no scientific data regarding the vaccine has been released yet. Russian officials, however, have said that at least 20 countries and some US companies have expressed interest in the vaccine.
