In case you have been wondering what intermittent fasting is, here’s a lowdown on the 16/8 hour method along with how it works.

What is 16/8 diet?

Intermittent fasting is a method where you eat within a specific time frame and fast for the hours out of it. Unlike other diet plans, the 16/8 diet allows you to eat anything and everything, but only during an 8-hour window in a day. You have to fast for the remaining 16 hours of the day.

How does 16/8 work?

Although it may sound like it’s impossible to control your hunger pangs, trust us, it ain’t that difficult. Suppose you choose to eat between 10 am to 6 pm. Start your day with a healthy breakfast, then a high-nutrition lunch followed by light snacks. Now, in this case, you skip dinner and start the fast post at 6 pm, continue it overnight and break it only at 10 am the next day.

If you think you would feel hungry at night, then best to skip breakfast. Start your day with a brunch of sorts, say between 11 am to 12 pm, followed by snacks around 4 pm and finally dinner between 7-8 pm. Make sure you do not delay your last meal post at 8 pm. Also, in between your meals, munch on healthy food items and stay away from junk food as much as possible.

P.S. It took two years for Ram to achieve the lean figure. Thus, you have got to wait it out and not break the cycle.

What are the benefits and side-effects of the 16/8 method?

Various studies and research have concluded that the 16/8 hour diet aids weight loss. During the 16-hour window that you fast, your body uses stored fats, boosts metabolism and also reduces your calorie intake per day.

Intermittent fasting is said to keep your blood sugar level in check, and also reduces the risk of diabetes. However, it must be noted that during the first few days/weeks, you may notice some side-effects like fatigue, cravings, and weakness amongst other side-effects.

It is best to consult a doctor before starting any diet plan or workout regime.
