Fraud accused Jignesh Shah and Rana Kapoor also named as alleged donators.
Sambit Patra of the BJP has alleged that the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) had received donations from individuals facing financial fraud cases, including fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi and companies linked to Islamist preacher, Zakir Naik. NSEL case accused Jignesh Shah, and jailed former YES Bank CEO Rana Kapoor have also been named by the BJP. “Rana Kapoor diverted Rs 2 crore from the bank to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for a painting. In 2016, Yes Bank also donated to the RGF,” Patra said.
In a targeted barb at the Congress party, Patra said that Choksi who is an accused in the PNB fraud case had donated Rs 10 lakh to the RGF in August 2014 through a company owned by his family. As for Naik, he had apparently donated Rs 50 lakh in 2011 to the trust. He also added that the money was in fact returned by the trust to a different account after a controversy had broken out.
