When the whole country was celebrating the 74th anniversary of independence, the country’s largest opposition party, Congress was as asking questions to the government about independence. Sonia Gandhi issued a statement in which she said that these are testing times for the Indian democracy. She alleged that the central government is standing contrary to the democratic system. She further said in her message that every countryman needs to look into the conscience and think what freedom means? During the debate on the same issue in Halla Bol on Sunday (August 16), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Sambit Patra said that Congress has also lodged 150 FIRs against him.

The Congress President, in her Independence Day message on Saturday (August 15), asked is there freedom in the country today to write, to speak, to ask questions, to disagree? While debating on the issue, she added this as a comment on what BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said. Meanwhile, the wife of deceased Congress leader Rajiv Tyagi has squarely blamed Patra for his demise. Tyagi died of cardiac arrest after a debate on a news channel on Wednesday (August 12).
