Saba Qamar Lands In Legal Soup; Lahore Court Issues Arrest Warrant Against Hindi Medium Actress
Hindi Medium actress Saba Qamar was pulled up for shooting a dancing video outside a historical mosque in Lahore. Court issues arrest warrant
A complaint was filed against Hindi Medium actress Saba Qamar for shooting a dancing video outside a historical mosque in Lahore. According to a report in DNA, the actress has been repeatedly missing court appearances and the district court in Pakistan issued an arrest warrant against her and singer Bilal Saeed. The hearing has been postponed until October 6.
Last year, Lahore police registered a case against Saba Qamar and singer Saeed under section 295 of the Pakistan Penal Code for ‘desecration’ of Masjid Wazir Khan in Lahore’s old city. According to the complaint, both the actors had violated the religious right of the mosque and have evoked a strong uproar of people against them in Pakistan. Also, the two would face heavy criticisms from the citizens of Pakistan for shooting a ‘dance video’ right outside the mosque. In addition to this, the Punjab government has also taken hold of two senior officers who are speculated to be in connection with the case.
Saba Qamar and singer Saeed took a stand for their actions and apologised to the citizens of Pakistan after they received death threats on social media. DNA reported Saba Qamar’s statement which read, “It was the music video featuring a Nikah (marriage) scene. It was neither shot with any sort of playback music nor has it been edited to the music track.”
Saba Qamar had won a lot of praise for her roles in Bollywood. The actress also played a biopic of social media sensation Qandeel Baloch. For her un-Islamic behaviour, the actress received death threats for defaming the religious values of the Masjid Wazir Khan in Lahore’s old city. Saba Qamar was threatened that she would also meet the same fate as Qandeel Baloch, who was killed in 2016 for ‘disgracing the family honour’ if the ‘dancing video’ was not taken down.
Saba Qamar is Pakistan’s one of the most popular and highest-paid actress. She also works as a television show host. Her roles have been recognised as to women represented as a modern-age-women in Urdu television.
