The Rajasthan High Court has provided a big breather for Sachin Pilot and 18 other dissident MLAs from the Congress party by asking the assembly speaker to not take any action against them till July 24. The court is deliberating upon a writ petition filed by Pilot and 18 others loyal to him, who defected the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government in the state earlier this month. Friday is when the next hearing on the matter will commence.
The Sachin Pilot camp from the Rajasthan Government had been issued show-cause notices by the assembly for defying a whip to attend two Congress Legislature Party meetings last week. The argument of the rebel MLAs is that the party whip’s orders only apply when the Assembly is in session. Sachin Pilot, who was the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan exited the Congress party recently over differences with Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot. He has since cleared his stance that he will not be joining the BJP.
