Union Minister for Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad wrote a letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg raising concerns over the deletion of some posts and pages on Facebook prior to the 2019 general elections. In the letter, Prasad said that there was “concerted effort” by Facebook India team to not just delete pages or reduce their reach during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, but also offered no right of appeal to people who supported the right-of-centre ideology. Prasad further accused some Facebook employees of being biased.

The Union Minister was also upset with the improper behaviour of Facebook employees when they abused the Prime Minister and some senior cabinet ministers of India. He tried connecting with the social media giant via email but received no response. Finally, in the letter, Prasad asked Facebook employees to be fair and neutral rather than supporting a particular political ideology.
