Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot To Move Confidence Motion Today
Floor test comes after truce is established between CM and Sachin Pilot faction.
The Rajasthan Assembly is up for an important session today, as Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot will be moving a confidence motion that BJP will be seen countering. Gehlot was already sure about proving the majority of his Congress Government, even before Sachin Pilot and his faction of 18 MLAs had returned. But now that a truce has indeed been established between the two blocs, winning the confidence motion will indeed be an easy task for the crisis-stricken government.
It is important to remember, however, that Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has twice issued a whip to its Rajasthan MLAs to vote against the Congress in any no-confidence motion on the floor. A total of six MLAs in the state were elected from the BSP, but they had later merged with the Congress, which is the issue of contention. The BSP argues that despite the fact that the MLAs have now merged with the Congress, they had won the election on BSP’s ticket, and they will, hence, have to follow the party’s whip.
