Rahul Gandhi Interacts With Fishermen At Thangassery Beach In Kollam
Interacting with the fishermen of Kollam at the Thangassery beach, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi spoke about the inflation in petrol and diesel prices and applauded the community’s hard work and courage
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived at the Thangassery beach in Kollam today to interact with the fishermen. Dressed modestly in trousers and a shirt, the Wayanad MP addressed thousands from the community, applauding them for their courage and hard work. With the help of a Malayali translator, Gandhi spoke about the rising petrol and diesel prices. Referring to the ongoing controversy of the Left Democratic Front party over the deep sea fishing contract, he said that that the government is colluding to build trawlers that will destroy the community’s lives eventually. He told them that he is aware that they cannot buy an engine beyond a certain size, with the boat having to be taken to another place for maintenance. He further stated that while he is not asking for all the benefits for them, there should be a display of some sense of fairness on part of the administration.
The former party president is on a two-day tour to the poll-bound state of Kerala. Before reaching his speech venue, he sailed the sea along with the fisherfolks at 4.30 am from the Vadi beach and even threw the net into the water. Speaking about his experience later, he said that he admires the sea heroes. He said that while the poor men go into the dangerous waters, buy the net and get the fish, someone else walks away with the profit. He also spoke about his aspiration to have a standalone ministry for fisheries in the government. Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by party leaders KC Venugopal, Ramesh Chennithala and Mullapally Ramachandran.
