Police Bust Militant Hideout In J&K’s Awantipora, Huge Cache Of Arms Recovered
Major Pulwama-style attack has been averted, according to the police.
In Jammu and Kashmir’s Awantipora, the police have busted a major militant hideout and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition that could have been used for a Pulwama-style attack, according to them. “During search of the forest area two explosive dumps were found which were concealed underground in two different 250 liters plastic tanks. In one plastic tank 416 high explosive gelatin sticks were kept concealed and have been recovered,” the police said.
The raid was a joint operation between the 42 RR (Rashtriya Rifles) and 130 BN CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force). In the operation, they also managed to find 50 detonators. “The detonators were destroyed by the Bomb Disposal Squad on the spot, due to their risk of carrying and transporting,” the police added. The Pulwama attack had taken place last year in February when a convoy of vehicles carrying security personnel was attacked by a vehicle-borne suicide bomber, leading to the deaths of 40 CRPF personnel.
