PM Modi Delivers Keynote Address At UN’s Economic And Social Council Session
PM Narendra Modi was joined by Norwegian PM, Erna Solberg, and UN Secretary-General, António Guterres.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the United Nations today at the high-level segment of its Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). This was his first address after India was inducted as a non-permanent member of the Security Council this June. He was joined in this address by Norwegian Prime Minister, Erna Solberg, and UN Secretary-General, António Guterres. This was a virtual keynote attended by premiers from various other countries.
The theme of this year’s high-level segment happens to be ‘Multilateralism after Covid19: What kind of UN do we need at the 75th anniversary’. Such a segment is held annually and represents the end of ECOSOC’s annual cycle of work. It is attended by a distinct group of high-level representatives from governments, the private sector, civil society, and academia. Prior to this, PM Modi had delivered a keynote address virtually on ECOSOC’s 70th anniversary in January 2016.
