PM Modi Says Every Indian Will Be Proud Of Indigenous COVID Vaccine After DCGI Nod
In a tweet, the PM shared the news of the Bharat Biotech made Covaxin and SII’s Covishield receiving a green signal from the DCGI for its vaccine rollout
Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his happiness through a tweet after the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) gave a green signal to two indigenous Coronavirus vaccines, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and Serum Institute of India’s (SII) Covishield. The PM wrote that the regulatory body’s emergency approval to the two made in India shots should make every Indian proud.
He further praised the enthusiasm of the scientists and researchers involved in the mammoth initiative that strengthens India’s dream of becoming a self-reliant nation. Modi also expressed his gratitude to all the frontline workers including doctors, nurses, medical staff, police, sanitation workers and others who braved the pandemic and stood strong throughout the trying times. He termed the vaccine authorisation as a decisive turning point to strengthen a spirited fight.
On Sunday, DCGI VG Somani said that the two vaccines are 100% safe, reasoning that his team would never approve anything that is not fit to be used. Side effects like mild fever, body pain and pain in the area of the shot received may be experienced, though none of these are worrisome according to him.
SII Chief Adar Poonawalla shared the news through his social media account wishing everyone a happy new year. He wrote that all the risks taken by his organization in stockpiling the injections finally paid off. He also confirmed that the country’s vaccine drive will start in the coming weeks.
