PM Modi Praises Deputy Chairman’s Tea Offer To Protesting MPs
Suspended MPs have rejected his “chai diplomacy,” calling him “anti-farmer.”
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has praised the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman for offering tea to the eight opposition MPs who had been holding a sit-in protest on the lawns outside the Parliament since they were suspended. They were suspended after protesting against the controversial voice vote that was ordered to pass the two farm bills, which farmers in Punjab and Haryana have been protesting against. This morning, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh offered tea to the protesting MPs.
PM Modi said in a tweet, “To personally serve tea to those who attacked and insulted him a few days ago as well as those sitting on Dharna shows that Shri Harivansh Ji has been blessed with a humble mind and a big heart. It shows his greatness. I join the people of India in congratulating Harivansh Ji.” The MPs had, however, rejected the “tea diplomacy” citing the Deputy Chairman’s “anti-farmer” stance. They have ended their sit-in protest, but have joined the opposition’s boycott of the Rajya Sabha.
