In his first interview to an English magazine during the Coronavirus pandemic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that every Indian will have access to the COVID19 vaccine whenever it is ready. Speaking about his vision of New India, the PM said that proactive and preventive measures taken by the government during the early stages of the outbreak helped save lakhs of lives.

Modi expressed confidence about the Indian economy slowly getting back to track, in line with the goal of making the country a $5 trillion economy by 2024. Responding to whether India can replace China as a global supply giant in the future, he said that our country’s aim is to offer unique opportunities rather than replacing someone else.

India has been amongst the worst-hit larger economies due to the pandemic. One of the first countries to impose a national lockdown, job losses, hunger and the largest migrant exodus was witnessed in the last 7 months. 80 lakh infections and more than 1.2 lakh deaths have been recorded till now, though according to a recent government-sponsored study, India will not cross more than 1.06 crore cases. The situation is expected to be under control by February 2021, subject to all safety protocols followed, according to the research.
