The Prime Minister aims on spending Rs 90,000 crore on Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Anna Yojana
At his preannounced address to the nation at 4 pm today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proclaimed that the Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Anna Yojana will be extended till November. Launched in 2016, this scheme was revived and reformed when the COVID-19 pandemic had led to subsequent lockdowns in the country. Under the scheme, the government has been distributing food grains for free to the poor. The Narendra Modi-led government plans to spend Rs 90,000 crore on expanding the free ration scheme till November.
“Keeping in mind all the festivals that are coming up in the next few months, this scheme to provide 80 crore people with 5 kg free ration and 1 kg dal (pulses) per month will now be extended till Diwali and Chhath Puja, or till the end of November,” said the Prime Minister of India. In his 4 pm address, Narendra Modi also said that more focus needs to be directed towards containment zones and urged the people of India to follow rules stringently.
