As India gears up for sombre Teacher’s Day celebrations this year due to the pandemic, a one-year-old video of President Ram Nath Kovind has gone viral on social media. In the video that was shot during last year’s Teacher’s Day celebrations, he can be seen touching the feet of his own teachers. Teacher’s Day is celebrated in India on September 5, which happens to be the birth date of the second President of India, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

On the eve of the special day, the President in India addressed the nation, saying, “The changing times call for new methods of pedagogy that may help us equip our younger generation, to learn, explore and contribute more efficiently to the society. I hope that we continue to be guided by our sagacious teachers and build a future of this great nation.” He added, “We celebrate the Teachers’ Day on the birth anniversary of one of the greatest teachers of modern times and my illustrious predecessor, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.”
