Nineteen Dead In Hyderabad Rains In 24 Hours, AP & Telangana Flooded
The toll is expected to climb further as large parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are under water, even though the rescue teams are working in full force
The rains continue to play havoc in 2020 as Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are struggling due to incessant showers. In the last 24 hours, the downpour has completely flooded the states, leaving 19 people dead in Hyderabad. Shocking footage and images have emerged from these areas with cars flowing in the rivers created by the rains and people stranded in their homes.
Telangana Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao held a review meeting with his ministers, while the army and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have continuously been carrying out rescue operations in the inundated areas. In Yashoda Hospital in the Somajiguda area, water entered the hospital premises and the building’s parking looked like a raging river. A temple at the Puranapool is hardly visible as it has completely submerged. In Andhra Pradesh, almost 100 villages have been cut off due to floods, according to reports.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there was 192.1 millimetres of rains in Hyderabad and it has warned of heavy showers for the next 48 hours. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind enquired with the state’s CM and governor, while Home Minister Amit Shah said that the ministry is working with the affected states to ensure timely relief.
