NIA Tightens Noose On Khalistani Funding, List Includes Farm Union Leader
The NIA has made a list of 40 people including farm union leader Baldev Singh Sirsa and Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu, to probe the international funding for the Sikh For Justice and other pro-Khalistani groups in India
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is coming down heavily on the Khalistani funding in India with several farm union leaders’ names also figuring in the list created by the central agency. To probe the monetary transactions of the Sikh for Justice (SFJ) outfit, the officials have reportedly made a list of 40 people for questioning. Summon notices have been sent to those named to appear for interrogation.
This includes farm union leader Baldev Singh Sirsa, who is protesting against the centre-imposed agricultural bills and Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu and his brother. Sirsa, who was to appear before the NIA today excused himself citing personal and medical reasons. Sidhu responded to the allegation on him, stating that the action against him and others is being initiated on the behest of the federal administration. Many demonstrators feel that this is the Modi government’s way of taking out its angst against the unstoppable farmer revolution.
The authorities are seeking to crack down the foreign funding for the pro-Khalistani terrorist activities by NRIs like Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Paramjit Singh and Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. The three men have already been declared as terrorists by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) last year.
With the farmer agitation exceeding 50 days, the movement representatives will meet the central ministers for another round of negotiations tomorrow (19 January). According to sources, the farmers will also bring up the targeting of their community through the Khalistani proposition by the NIA.-
On 12 December last year, a high-level meeting at the MHA with senior personnel from the Income Tax Department, Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation and the NIA took place to initiate the rounding up of the suspects.
