Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli kicked up a storm recently when he said that, in fact, Lord Ram was born in Nepal and not in Ayodhya as most people seem to believe. The country’s Foreign Ministry has now clarified his statement by stating that the PM had no intention of hurting the religious sentiments of the people in India. The remarks were made at an event that marked the 207th birth anniversary of Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya, who wrote the Nepali version of the Ramayana.

“As there have been several myths and references about Shri Ram and the places associated with him, the Prime Minister was simply highlighting the importance of further studies and research of the vast cultural geography that the Ramayana represents to obtain facts about Shri Ram, Ramayana, and the various places linked to this rich civilisation,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal said in a statement.
