Responding to Congress Leader Digvijay Singh’s remarks about the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) involvement in the 26 January violence, union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that the Congress is firing from the shoulders of the farmers. Reasoning that none of the opposition political parties want anything to do with the protesting community, Naqvi added that not a single rival politician came out on the Republic Day and called out the perpetrators for the unrest. He alleged that it is the selfish interests of politicians like Singh because of which they choose to opine on a matter which is otherwise of no relevance of them.

Earlier, the Congress General Secretary had spoken to media persons reasoning that while both Singhu and Tikri borders remained peaceful on the day of the tractor march, tensions were rife at the Ghazipur location due to the police changing the motorcade route during the eleventh hour. He further said that while the demonstrators urged the authorities to open the barricades, the latter retorted with lathis and teargas, hence spiraling the situation out of control. He also stated that the farmers who were peacefully protesting for over two months are not capable of rioting the way it was projected by the centre. He went on to accuse the BJP of intentionally planting antisocial elements to disrupt the arrangements and even claimed that 15 of those handed over to the police by the farmers were all carrying identity cards proving their allegiance to the Modi government.
