MP Lockdown: Congress MLA Says Bakri Eid Will Be Celebrated At All Costs
After Madhya Pradesh announced a 10-day lockdown, Arif Masood criticised it and threatened of agitation if celebration of festivals was restricted by the government.
Hours after the Madhya Pradesh government announced a 10-day lockdown in Bhopal amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, Congress MLA Arif Masood criticised the move and threatened of agitation if celebration of festivals was restricted by the administration amidst strict lockdown orders. Eid-al-Adha, also known as Bakri Eid or Bakara Eid, is being observed on July 31, while the festival of Raksha Bandhan falls on August 3. The last day of the 10-day lockdown announced by state Home Minister Narottam Mishra is on Wednesday (July 22). Masood claimed that the decision was taken without taking public representatives into confidence.
“Qurbani (sacrificial ritual) will be undertaken on the day of the festival at all costs,” affirmed the Congress lawmaker, urging everyone to oppose the move on social media. Festivals like Raksha Bandhan and Eid-al-Adha can’t be blocked with lockdown orders, Masood said threatening the administration with agitation in case the decision is not rolled back by 4 p.m. on Thursday (July 23). Locals could observe festivals with social distancing and other safety norms, he added.
