MP Bypolls: BJP Fumes As Kamal Nath Refers To Party’s Candidate Imarti Devi As ‘Item’
While addressing a rally in Dhabra in MP ahead of the by polls, Kamal Nath called the Congress candidate a simple man while referring to BJP’s Imarti Devi as an ‘item’
Congress politician and former Madhya Pradesh (MP) Chief Minister Kamal Nath took a dig at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Imarti Devi by referring to her as an ‘item’ during his speech at a public rally ahead of the MP by polls. Nath referred to Congress candidate Suresh Raje as a simple man, while comparing him to Devi and mocking at her.
The sexist comment has now become a matter of controversy, with MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan condemning it as shameful and insulting to a woman. Imarti Devi, a cabinet minister in the state government also spoke on the matter, saying that she felt let down. She also added that with this mentality, women from lower sections of society will never be able to thrive.
The BJP is fuming over the unwarranted remark and has decided to approach the election commission to complain against the Congress leader. Meanwhile, BJP Rajya Sabha Member Jyotiraditya Scindia will be staging a two-hour silent protest in Indore from 10-12 pm to show support for the woman candidate. He lashed back at the Congress by stating that the party is incapable of respecting women and urged people to shut their doors to such politicians by voting them out.
