Military Options Available Against China: General Bipin Rawat
The Chief of Defence Staff stated that military options are there if China doesn’t disengage at the border following peace talks
Amidst India and China’s standoff, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat stated on Monday that India has military options to deal with China on the issues of their transgression into the Indian side. This is seen as a possibility, if negotiations between the two nations at the military and diplomatic levels fail.
The ongoing tensions between India and China in Ladakh started in April 2020, when the Chinese army started breaching the borders at various areas, including the Galwan Valley.
Rawat refused to comment on the kind of military options that India could exercise to combat the Chinese troops. He however said that all the three Armed Forces are ready, indicating that the country’s services have been preparing for the possibility of a military intervention.
The Indo-Chinese border is disputed at several locations, with the Chinese Line of Actual Control (LAC) consisting of claims in the Ladakh region and even parts of Arunachal Pradesh. The Modi government has refused to succumb to Chinese pressure and has instead worked on strengthening India’s defence capabilities to counter any threats from the opponents.
