Major Fire At Pune District Chemical Factory, No Casualties Reported
The factory in the Kurkumbh area on Pune-Solapur road caught fire at 12.30 last night and was doused after a four-hour operation by fire-fighters
A major fire broke out at a chemical factory in Pune last night at around 12.30 am. The plant located at the Kurkumbh industrial area in Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) on the Pune-Solapur road, was not operational at the time of the mishap. Around 10-12 workers were rescued by the emergency services and no casualties have been reported from the accident.
While the cause of the fire and extent of property damage is not known yet, it took about four hours to bring the situation under control by the fire brigade from Pune and Baramati. According to officials, a storage of solvents may have intensified the flames in the unit that produces several chemicals.
In May 2020, another major fire incident was reported from the same industrial area in the Kusum Chemicals Factory. A rescue team of five people had been sent at that time to control the mishap.
