Landslide On Mumbai’s Western Express Highway Disrupts Traffic
Heavy rains have also caused severe waterlogging in most parts of the city.
Amidst heavy rains that have been lashing in Mumbai since last night, the city witnessed a landslide on the Western Express Highway in suburban Kandivali this morning. No one was injured during the incident which was caught on camera by a passersby. Authorities have deployed heavy vehicles to clear the debris from the road, which led to South-bound traffic being diverted to the opposite lane, causing a massive traffic jam on the highway.
As if the landslide wasn’t troublesome enough, the heavy rains have also caused waterlogging in most parts of the city. Reports of the same are arriving from Sion, Wadala, Dadar, Kings Circle, Goregaon, Mulund, Kurla and Borivali. Local train services, which are currently only available for essential workers, were disrupted as well. “Mumbai and its neighbourhood areas received very intense rainfall. Mumbai is now on red alert with possibilities of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places,” said KS Hosalikar of the IMD.
