In the match between Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals, KXIP defeat DC with 5 wickets in Dubai on Tuesday, October 20. It was the 38th match of the IPL season. Nicholas Pooran and Shikhar Dhawan were the scene stealers of the match. However, it was Pooran’s game-changing skills that earned KXIP its victory.
Nicholas Pooran’s 53 runs help KXIP win
In the first innings, the Delhi Capitals scored 164 runs including Shikhar’s 106 runs. Chasing the 165-run target, KXIP started on a bad note. They lost their skipper and orange cap holder KL Rahul in the third over itself with only 15 runs. He was dismissed by Axar Patel who had scored 17 runs together with Rahul. Chris Gayle managed to score 26 runs while DC pacer Tushar Deshpande was bowling. However, Ashwin clean bowled him with amazing delivery.
It seemed like the team had already lost the game with their major players KL Rahul and Gayle losing their wickets. Later, Mayank Agarwal played with Nicholas Pooran as the pressure on them increased. But three balls later and because of a poor call, Ashwin and Rishabh Pant combined to run out Mayank who had only scored 5 runs and this left KXIP in grave danger with just 56/3. Nicholas Pooran, however, made up for his mistake by scoring 53 runs off just 28 balls at such a crucial time for the team. He managed to score six fours and three sixes in the game.
He snitched 69 runs off 40 balls with Glen Maxwell until he lost his wicket in the 13th over to Kagiso Rabada. But he did manage to add pace to the team’s success. Rabada dismissed Maxwell as well. However, it was too late for DC to take KXIP down as Hooda and Neesham managed to win the game where they needed 16 runs off 23 balls.
In the previous inning, Shikhar scored his second century in IPL 2020. It was his second consecutive hundred in the tournament. Even in the previous match, Shikhar had smashed 101 not out. He became the first batsman in the history of IPL to hit back to back hundreds. However, since the team could not support his game and lost against KXIP, his century was overshadowed by Pooran’s half-century. He was considered as the game-changer of the match.
