Korean Boys Band BTS wins Best K-Pop award for Butter

The South Korean Boys Band, BTS won the Best K-Pop award for its song ‘Butter’ at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday. Released in May this year, Butter garnered the record of ‘Most Viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours. Butter also single-handedly fetched them five records including the ‘most streamed track on Spotify in the first 24 hours.

BTS’ official accounts snatched the most Twitter engagements (average retweets) for a music group. And, BTS did this four times altogether. With 40 million followers, they also hold a record of the most-viewed YouTube video in 24 hours by a K-Pop group, the fastest time to reach one million followers on the video-sharing platform, TikTok.

BTS’s Butter not only topped Billboard Hot 100 but has stayed there for consistent 10 weeks on top. The song also took the title of this year’s Song of the Summer. Performing a snippet of their song Butter through video conferencing, the band delivered their acceptance award and expressed their inability to attend the event in person in Brooklyn. Expressing their inability to attend the event, the Boys’ band promised to be there next time.

The band also thanked their fan base ARMY. “We’ll keep bringing great music for all of you guys. Love you all,” they said. The band at the pre-show party has won the award for a group of the year with 25 million votes.

This year’s VMA awards saw performances of Justin Bieber, Machine Gun Kelly, Alicia Keys, Teyana Taylor, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, and others.

Formed in 2010 and debuted in 2013 with their 2 Cool 4 Skool, BTS has taken the internet by storm with their popular tracks like Dynamite, Butter, Boy with Love, and their latest Permission to Dance. The seven-member boys’ band consists of Jin, Suga, J Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. The Band has recently won the Guinness World Records Hall of Fame with its 23 records.
