The 26th Kolkata International Film Festival will go on for 7 days and will start from Today, i.e. Friday 8 January 2021. For the inauguration, Soumitra Chatterjee’s film Apur Sansar (The World of Apu) will be screened. The seven-day festival will observe the tribute to two great icons in the Bengal film industry; Satyajit Ray’s birth centenary and Bengali Actor Soumitra Chatterjee who passed away last year in November. It is the third film in legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray’s internationally acclaimed Apu Trilogy. Soumitra Chatterjee had made his debut with this film in the industry. Satyajit Ray is considered one of the greatest Indian filmmakers. Soumitra Chatterjee was one of the most celebrated actors in Bengal, and will remembered for his unmatched contribution to cinema forever.
The Kolkata International Film Festival has been inaugurated with various big names like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan in the past. A total of 131 films will be screened in this year’s Kolkata International Film Festival. Various documentaries, feature films and short films will be shown at the festival. KIFF is usually held in November every year but this year it had to be postponed because of COVID-19 pandemic.
