On Monday, the Shrine of Kedarnath was wrapped in a blanket of snow after the Valley and the surrounding hill areas witnessed spells of snowfall. This also led to a fall in the temperature on the hills. As per the report, the Shrine is located in the Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini river. It is located at about 22 kilometres uphill trek from Gaurikund. As per reports from IMD, the state will witness very light to light rainfall/snowfall at few places.

The trees and houses covered in snow serve as a perfect destination for tourists during winter. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Uttarakhand will witness very light rainfall/snowfall at a few places such as Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts. It also mentioned isolated places in Tehri, Dehradun and Almora districts. As per the reports, dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts of the state and snowfall is likely to occur at isolated places with a height of 3000m and above.

According to a news portal, the Cheif Ministers of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Yogi Adityanath and Trivendra Singh Rawat respectively had arrived at Kedarnath on Monday. The duo reached the temple to offer prayers and to participate in the portal closing ceremony of the shrine. As per reports, they witnessed the snowfall in the temple area as they entered the shrine.

Consequently, Kedarnath saw calmer weather on Tuesday with Dehradun recording a 9.4-degree celsius while Mukteshwar and New Tehri witnessed 4.2-degree celsius. Snowfall was reportedly recorded at a few high-altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu Kashmir. Several places of North India too witnessed a dip in the temperature on Tuesday such as Haryana, Punjab and Delhi. A day after the heavy snowfall in the upper regions of Himachal Pradesh, Manali witnessed a minus 1.5 degrees celsius temperature. Keylong at minus 6.6 degrees celsius was the coldest place in the state. According to IMD, Delhi’s minimum temperature fell to 13 degrees Celsius, three notches down from Monday, while the maximum settled at 26 degrees celsius.
