Karan Wahi Confesses On The Greedy Closet: I Am A Complete Mama’s Boy
In a candid conversation with Monica Dogra, Karan Wahi and designer Kunal Rawal reveal their career highs and lows.
Karan Wahi is hands down a heartthrob who never misses a chance to tug at our heartstrings with his impressive chops, enviable style file and hot n’ cute looks. The television and film celebrity recently made an appearance on ZEE5 show The Greedy Closet with one of the leading men’s designers of India, Kunal Rawal. For those not in the know, Kunal revolutionised menswear in India and has dressed up several who’s who of the industry. The youngest designer to debut at the Lakme Fashion Week boasts of a style that is a melange of regimental influences and contemporary silhouettes.
“I assure you I don’t take five minutes to get ready,” asserts Kunal as Karan tells him that girls take longer to dress up. When asked what made him foray into fashion, he replied, “Lot of boys have a take on Westernwear — shoes, blazer, vibe, etc. When it comes to Indianwear and occasionwear, not too many of them voice their opinion. I don’t know if it’s disinterest or a lack of options.” Karan, in agreement, added, “Sometimes, I need somebody to tell me you should wear this. I might have it in my closet, but I’ll probably team it up differently because I am scared to team it up with something else. I am a complete mama’s boy.”
Host Monica Dogra questioned both Kunal and Karan about their career highs and lows to which the former answered: “When I started my store, I was so particular about putting my first store. I got into retail too early and it took some while for me to get it fully in action. I had 60-65 pieces and the collection was sitting with me for five-six months till I got my store running. For sure, being selected for GenNext fashion, that has been the highest high for me. Also, being a part of Aisha, a fashion-driven film and styling the men.”
As far as Karan is concerned, his lowest was when a certain film he did got shelved leading to other offers being pulled back too. “Few years back when I had finished a film with a big production house, I had signed four more films because of it. And it just didn’t release, so it all went away. It was probably a difficult time because I was like, ‘I am not doing this anymore.’ When you think about it in retrospect, I got to do so much more.”
In the Q&A game round, Monica asked Kunal to rate a bunch of Bollywood actors and actresses according to their style profile. His picks in heroines went as follows: Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. Names in the leading men category were as follows: Ranbir Kapoor, Karan Johar, Ranveer Singh, Virat Kohli, Vicky Kaushal and Akshay Kumar.
Towards the end of the episode, Kunal confessed he prefers Karan Johar’s wardrobe over Ranveer Singh’s, while Karan said he’d want to steal Shahid Kapoor’s wardrobe if given a chance.
