The constable had made the call to Vikas Dubey giving him a tip off about the impending police raid
The main accused in the Kanpur encounter case, Vikas Dubey, had received a phone call from the police station before cops came to arrest him, claimed Daya Shankar Agnihotri, a member of Dubey gang. The call recording has been found on the constable’s phone who was posted on duty at Chaubeypur Police Station. Apparently, the call was made 54 minutes prior to the shootout incident. Earlier, on July 5, the police arrested Daya Shankar Agnihotri and recorded his statement.
‘He (Vikas Dubey) received a phone call from the police station before cops came to arrest him. Following this, he called around 25-30 people who fired bullets on police personnel,” said Agnihotri. According to sources, Dubey’s last location was traced in Auraiya and it is suspected that he might have gone to Madhya Pradesh or Rajasthan, crossing the Uttar Pradesh border. The UP Police has contacted the police of both these states.
