In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, more than five cases of alleged ‘Love Jihad’ have apparently come forth in the past two months. These cases are being linked to the Juhi Colony area of the city. The leaked case papers of three such incidents have supposedly shown that the accused are living in the said colony. One such case was recorded in Kalyanpur on July 2 in which two youths named Kamaal and Khaleel were arrested for eloping with two girls with the intention of converting them. A Special Investigative Team (SIT) of the UP Police will investigate these cases.

Another incident involves an interfaith marriage between two Kanpur residents, wherein the couple has rubbished any allegations of ‘Love Jihad’ by releasing a video. Bajrang Dal workers had alleged the girl was converted without her consent and had created a ruckus outside the couple’s house in Juhi Colony. In the video, Shalini Yadav can be heard saying that she willingly converted to Islam and has asked for protection from the police.
