Kanpur Kidnapping Case: Victim’s Sister Retracts Statement, Says Ransom Demand Was True
Kidnappers had disappeared after grabbing Rs 30 lakh ransom, which was supposed to be a ruse by police
The Kanpur kidnapping of a young man has taken a new turn. The sister of the victim has changed her earlier statement and has made allegations against the police. She has said that she was asked by the police to lie, which is why she lied about giving the ransom amount. The victim’s sister had earlier said that the family had given the entire Rs 30 lakh amount as ransom in the presence of the police. This statement by the sister raises new questions about the whole affair.
The operation by the police to catch the kidnappers had gone horribly wrong, leading to the Kanpur police facing a lot of flak. Following the ransom call, the police had apparently asked the family to arrange for the cash that was being sought by the kidnappers. The police said that the cash will be used as a ruse to lure the criminals as part of a “plan” to nab the culprits. But things didn’t go according to plan and the kidnappers managed to escape with the cash.
