Justice For Jayaraj And Fenix: Celebrities Join Cries; Question Custodial Deaths
Celebrities from the Southern and Hindi film industries use social media to demand justice for the father-son duo that was killed by police brutality.
Following the condemnation of the Jayaraj and Fenix incident by the Southern film industry, their Bollywood counterparts have joined calls of justice for the father-son duo that was killed in an alleged incidence of a brutal assault by the police in Kovilpatti in Tamil Nadu. The two had died due to injuries sustained while in police custody after they were booked for not closing their mobile shop on time. Radio Jockey and popular singer Suchitra shared an emotional video detailing the incident, which went viral and brought national attention to the issue.
Soon after, celebrities started reacting to the news through social media. Among the ones who posted sympathies and demanded justice were Priyanka Chopra, Kiara Advani, Taapsee Pannu, Neha Dhupia, Parineeti Chopra, and Riteish Deshmukh. However, the voices of a number of celebrities who had criticised the George Floyd incident in the US are conspicuously missing from the debate. This has once again led to their criticism by the public for their selective outrage.
