Is The NCB’s Investigation Going In The Wrong Direction?
While the agency seems to be busy leaking names of Bollywood celebrities, are they really going after the big traffickers and sources?
As the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) continues their drug-related probe in the Sushant Singh Rajput case, the agency is revealing new names of well-known celebrities. Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone is the latest to be targeted by them after some chats emerged from 2017 pointing towards her consuming drugs. Dia Mirza and Shraddha Kapoor are some others who have also been named by the bureau.
This raises a serious concern if the central agency is selectively leaking names and electronic chats of famous personalities, while completely ignoring the big fish, the drug traffickers.
Former NCB Chief BV Kumar says that his team only went after large cases as opposed to framing people like Rhea Chakraborty who was caught with just 59 grams of Hash. He also agrees that the Jalebi actress should have been given bail since she never promoted drug abuse.
Former senior police officials cite that electronic chats are the poorest form of evidence and believe that the agency’s investigations can cause havoc and permanently taint the reputation of these actresses.
Senior Lawyer Rizwan Merchant pointed out that Rhea could have been bailed out by any police officer as soon as she was arrested by the NCB, as a police personnel has the same powers as an NCB official.
While the real culprits remain at large, the central anti-narcotics agency seems to be lost in the circus of trying to expose a supposed Bollywood drug cartel.
