Is Dawood Ibrahim Slowly Nearing His End?
Pakistan retracted their statement on Saturday, shorty after admitting to Dawood’s presence in their country. Will India strike?
Pakistan finally acknowledged that fugitive terrorist Dawood Ibrahim resides in their country, only to retract from their statement soon. With two surgical strikes by India already conducted on the neighboring country, it remains to be seen if India will punish Dawood, in the same way America killed Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan.
To avoid blacklisting by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the don’s name was published in a list of 88 other people as a Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO) by the Pakistan government. On Saturday, their Foreign Ministry however made a contradicting statement, saying that is wrong to assume that a certain person is residing in Pakistan. Stating that the ministry had issued two SROs on 18 August, reflecting the current status of the UN Taliban and ISIL (Da’esh) and Al Qaeda Sanctions list, it said that these SROs are issued from time to time to meet their international obligations.
Dawood, who has been on the run from India since the 1993 blasts, is on the Modi government’s radar. India had revealed his multiple Pakistani passport numbers in 2015 and Indian agencies are clear that the wanted terrorist resides in the White House in Karachi, fully shielded by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
It is ironic that the terrorist holds a National Identification Number, but Pakistan refuses to accept his presence there.
