IPL Qualifier 1: Delhi Coach Ricky Ponting Admits That Mumbai Indians Outplayed Them
In the first qualifier, Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals. The coach of the team, Ricky Ponting admits that Mumbai Indians played better than them.
The qualifier 1 took place yesterday on November 5 between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. In the match, Mumbai Indians beat Delhi capitals with 57 runs and booked a place in the finals. Ricky Ponting, the coach of Delhi Capitals said that Delhi will have to dig deeper in order to survive in IPL 2020 playoffs.
Ricky Ponting on Mumbai Indians’ win over Delhi Capitals
Mumbai Indians played against Delhi Capitals yesterday and defeated them by 57 runs. According to Ricky Ponting, the coach of Delhi Capitals in the MI vs DC match, Mumbai outplayed them. He added that execution of the bowlers’ bowling plan during the last few overs “was miles off its target.” While talking about the team’s performance, he said that it was mainly about their execution in the first few overs. In the first over, they allowed Mumbai Indians to score around 15 runs which shouldn’t have happened.
He added that they tried their best to crawl back into the game by playing well between the 7 to 14 overs where they managed to take a few wickets. At that time, the team thought that since Mumbai Indians were only at 120-4, they would score only 160-170 runs but they ended up scoring much more than that. Their execution in the last 4-5 matches was extremely poor, he added. He also said that they allowed Hardik Pandya to score and said that Ishaan Kishan has always played well when they played with Mumbai Indians.
The team had it all planned well but it was the pressure due to which their execution failed he added. He mentioned that sometimes the captain’s decision and execution during the game sometimes go wrong. He added that Mumbai Indian’s execution was extremely outstanding. He agreed that they played much better in the IPL Qualifier 1 than Delhi Capitals.
While complimenting some of the players of the opposite team, Ricky Ponting said Prithvi Shaw got good balls from them and he hit them wisely. He also said that Ajinkya Rahane swung his bat nicely throughout the game. He added that” the execution of Bumrah’s yorker to Shikhar was absolutely first-class.”
Delhi Capitals will be next playing on Sunday, November 8 against the winner of the first eliminator. Mumbai Indians has now qualified to the finals. The finals will take place on November 10, 2020.
