Speedster Josh Hazlewood has officially pulled out of the league citing the reason of bio-bubble fatigue. The player informed the team management that moving from one series to another with almost no break in between has drained him completely. Although the IPL 2021 season is considered to be an important tournament for Players in preparation for this year’s T20 World Cup, the Aussie bowler has decided to take some time off to rest at his homeland rather than play the tournament in India.
“It’s been a long 10 months in bubbles and quarantine at different times, so I decided to have a rest from cricket and spend some time at home and in Australia in the next two months. We’ve got a big winter ahead too. The West Indies is going to be a long tour, with Bangladesh (T20 tour) potentially thrown on the end of that,” Hazlewood said.
However, this is not the first time a player has backed out from the tournament. Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) also had announced that he will be skipping the 14th edition of the league. With big names like Hazlewood and Marsh stepping out of the tournament due to the two-month-long league, some other players are considering taking a rest too. Meanwhile, this has opened opportunities for upcoming players to shine and take their spots in the team.
Hazlewood had cost CSK INR 2 crore in the IPL 2020 auction. Despite being non-regular in the previous season, Hazlewood was retained by the MS Dhoni-led side. Currently, the team is on the run to find a replacement for the Aussie paceman, which is becoming tougher by the day due to the COVID-19 restrictions. Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman Josh Philippe is yet another player who has backed out from the tournament.
