IPL 2020: Suresh Raina Returned To India After Controversy
Chennai Super Kings batsman Suresh Raina has pulled out of IPL 2020 citing personal reasons but sources have suggested that it was a controversy over hotel room.
It has been a difficult first couple of weeks for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ahead of the start of the new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). After 13 members of the contingent, including two players, tested positive for the novel Coronavirus, CSK was handed another huge blow when key batsman Suresh Raina pulled out of IPL 2020 to return home. On Saturday (August 30), CSK announced that Raina has gone back to India due to personal reasons and will not take part in the upcoming season of IPL.
While the exact reason for his departure from the team is not known yet, rumours of a possible ‘rift’ between him and captain MS Dhoni have surfaced. It has also been claimed that Raina was not happy with the room provided to him at CSK’s team hotel in Dubai as the left-hander wanted a room similar to Dhoni. The death of one of his relatives in Pathankot after an attack by robbers recently has also been cited as one of the reasons behind his departure. However, Raina is yet to clarify why he decided to pull out of the competition despite being in high spirits after opting for retirement from international cricket earlier this month.
