RCB was put to bat first and garnered a total run of 131 runs on the scoreboard. Virat Kohli promoted himself to the top with Devdutt Padikkal. However, the duo departed early, making it difficult for the RCB batting unit. On the other hand, AB de Villiers’ half-century combined with Aaron Finch’s 30-ball 32 seemed a likely means to save RCB. However, that was not enough to stop SRH from defeating the team. Led by Kane Williamson and Jason Holder, SRH‘a batting unit managed to achieve a well-deserved place in the Qualifier 2 of the tournament. Most fans blamed Kohli for RCB’s poor performance. According to a news portal, many felt that he failed to deliver when it mattered which was cause for their abysmal record over the last five games.
Sunil Gavaskar also reacted to RCB’s loss. According to him, Kohli failed to match the high standards which he sets for himself. Sunil also pointed out that RCB’s bowling was a weak link. India’s former captain Gautam Gambhir also added his input. He said that Kohli needs to be accountable for not leading RCB to the title in the past eight years. Fans backed AB de Villiers to take over the Bangalore franchise. On the other hand, Gavaskar also asked the RCB team management to provide the all-rounder Shivam Dube with a proper role.
Kohli’s captaincy has matured over the years. It was evident from his resource-allocation strategy. However, against SRH in the eliminator RCB needed their top order to fire and it was at this moment that they deserted the team. Even though RCB started off well and were doing good in the tournament, their hope to clinch the maiden IPL title was shattered.
