Stephen further said, “It took a little bit of luck and a few twists towards the end for us to get over the line. Mixed emotions, when you are sitting here and out of the competition, you are watching not as nervous. Very pleased to get the win.” He went on to talk about Ruturaj Gaikwad and said that he has done well in the last couple of games. More so, the team was elated and happy that he’s taken the opportunity, Stephen added. “We look back at the missed opportunities when he got COVID-19. He missed out the pre-season, he came back after about 4-5 weeks in isolation,” he recalled. “We tried to get him involved but he was a long way from being ready. So we’re just happy now to create the opportunity and he has shown us that he’s the right player,” stated Fleming.
Not only this, the head coach of Chennai Super Kings was all praises for Gaikwad’s timing, as he went on to describe him as a “very fluent player”. Stephen exclaimed that Ruturaj has got lovely timing which allows him to hit the ball in the gaps. The former New Zealand captain remarked that it was a lot of power for a small guy.
In the match, CSK vs KKR, Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 72 of 53 balls and the also won the Man of the Match.
