International Women’s Day: Kiren Rijiju Flags Off The ‘Fit India Walkathon’
Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju flagged off the 2km walkathon event in Delhi.
It is indeed a special day for women across the globe. As the world celebrates International Women’s Day, many organisations stepped forward to make this yet another memorable day. Commemorating the special day, the Fit India Movement in association with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) held a walkathon event for women at Delhi’s Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium. The event named All Women Fit India Walkathon turned out to be a huge success as hundreds flowed in to participate.

The event was held today morning in celebration of the special occasion. The 2 km walkathon event was flagged off by the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju. Inaugurating the event, the minister said that the Youth Affairs Secretary Usha Sharma was leading the All Women’s Fit India Walkathon. He stated that thousands of volunteers from across the country are participating in it.

The Minister said, “In the Olympics and other international events, our Indian women are performing exceedingly well. We are giving an equal platform to all, but I am happier when our women athletes perform well. It’s our dream to see the daughters of the country perform well internationally.”
Ekta Vishnoi, Director of Fit India Mission also participated in the event which had a bunch of other big-name officials taking part. Many celebrities also came out in support of the event. Multiple walkathons like the event were organised in 1000 venues across India and over 500 volunteers participated in the event in Delhi.
