Indian Navy And Government Launch Mission Sagar To Help Island Nations
Mission Sagar aims at providing food and medication to people stranded on island nations like Maldives and Mauritius.
On Sunday, India launched Mission Sagar, another initiative as part of the government’s outreach programme with the intention of helping five Island nations in the Indian Ocean amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As part of the mission, the Indian Naval Ship Kesari will enter the Port of Male in the Republic of Maldives and provide those stranded on the island with food, medicines and more.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) in a statement said, “Indian Naval Ship Kesari has departed for Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar, and Comoros, to provide Food Items, COVID related Medicines including HCQ Tablets and Special Ayurvedic Medicines with Medical Assistance Teams embarked.”
The first step that was taken during the initial lockdown stages was to transport COVID-19 related essential medicines to Mauritius and Maldives. A team of selected doctors were also sent to the Maldives so as to be prepared to fight the virus.
