India Seals Deal for 100 Million COVID-19 Vaccines With Russia
Indian pharma Dr. Reddy’s Lab has struck a deal to manufacture 100 million Sputnik 5 Vaccines in India

In a positive development amidst the Coronavirus crisis, Russia has agreed to supply 100 million doses of its COVID19 vaccine, the Sputnik 5 to India, once it receives regulatory approval for selling.
Well known Indian pharmaceutical company, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratory has struck a deal with Russia’s Sovereign Wealth Fund. The deal comes after the Russian Direct Investment Fund reached agreements with Indian manufacturers to produce 300 million doses of the vaccine in India.
Dr. Reddy’s Laboratory will conduct the phase three trials of the Sputnik 5 here. Depending on the results of the trials and the registration of the vaccine by Indian authorities, the delivery is estimated for late 2020.
While the price of the vaccine is unknown, the manufacturing nation has said that they are not looking at making any profits but only recovering the cost. They have already sealed deals with other countries too, including Kazakhstan, Mexico and Brazil.
Russia was the first country to license its Corona vaccine even before it completed its large-scale phase three clinical trials that started in August. This raised concerns amongst health experts world-over about the safety and efficacy of the immunization.
With India crossing the 5 million infection mark and recording more than 82,000 deaths from the virus till now, a shield from COVID19 will come as a big relief.
