Watching a movie is a delightful experience. If you get a chance to experience an iconic or revolutionary moment in a movie, you won’t want to miss it, would you? Bollywood has also made some such fine works of art which are backed by real events. So, on the occasion of Independence Day, let’s discuss movies that were based on real events.

1. Shaheed

The 1965 film Shaheed is considered as a pioneer among biopics. The film is depicts the Indian freedom struggle through the eyes of revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev. As the film progress, we get to witness crucial moments of the freedom struggle, such as how Lala Lajpat Rai was martyred, why Bhagat Singh and Bhatukeshwar Dutt threw bombs in the assembly, and the indefinite hunger strike organised by Mahatma Gandhi. You feel the pride when Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru celebrate their passion for India in their final moments.

2. Gadar: Ek Prem Katha

India got freedom at the cost of Partition. A new country was formed on 14 August 1947–Pakistan. The partition didn’t go peacefully and there was bloodshed massacre between Hindus, Sikhs, and Muslims. Gadar: Ek Prem Katha is plays against the backdrop of Partition. Sunny Deol plays the role of Tara Singh, a person who is wounded by scars of Partition. The movie actually shows the topic of Partition and its aftermath with the utmost respect. While watching the film, you’ll feel the struggle of people who left everything behind to move to their new homeland.

3. Parmanu: The Story Of Pokhran 

Till the year 1998, India had everything except nuclear power. 1998 was the year when the Indian army tested five nuclear bombs in the  small village of Pokhran. Do you want to know how the Indian army executed these tests? Do you know that many other countries were keeping a close watch in India at that time? 4. Uri- The Surgical Strike 

This is another landmark film which celebrates an iconic mission of the Armed forces. The 2019 blockbuster stars Vicky Kaushal, Mohit Raina, Yami Gautam and others as bravehearts who take revenge upon the militants who ordered the Uri attacks. Uri- The Surgical Strike is one such film that has set an example in the war genre. The movie talks about a Naya Hindustan, which dares to give a befitting reply to its enemies.
