Whenever a diagnosis is done, it leaves not only the patient but also every person associated, vulnerable, and exposed. Diagnosis helps doctors understand and treat their patients better while it may seem like an overwhelming sense of burden for the latter.
Especially when it comes to the ones with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), being on the spectrum itself proves to be staggering. The daily functions, even the most mundane, seem arduous and demanding.
But the most crucial aspect to deal with being on the spectrum is to never, even for a split second, let any label define you. To understand that you are more than your diagnosis is the ultimate aim.
For self-esteem as well as stability, not associating yourself with the symptoms, rather simply acknowledging the fact as it is, is what you need. Yes, you are on the spectrum but make no mistake, you do not live and breathe your diagnosis.
You are as free as a bird, as you imagine yourself to be. No cage ensnares you, never did, never will.
April 2nd is the day for all of us to celebrate the lives of and raise awareness about people with ASD ranging from Autism to Asperger’s syndrome. If you or your loved one fall in this spectrum, then this is the right dose of inspiration for you.
You are doubtlessly more than your diagnosis and have a whole, beautiful, great life ahead. Do not let anything bind you nor define you. There’s no such thing as normal, and just because you operate differently doesn’t make you any less than the common similarly functioning beings.
There’s no need for you to feel stigmatized because others are insecure or not open-minded enough. Keep in mind, humans make mistakes, and you’re as entitled to err and feel what you do, as they are.
That being said, you are many things. But what you are not, is your diagnosis.
And so, I bring to you, profusely talented, amazing, and intellectual personalities who not only defied the social constructs regarding people with Autism but also augmented the fact that one can be much more than their diagnosis.
