BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi ‘s remarks on farm protests outside the Parliament on Thursday have drawn a lot of flak.  The recently appointed Minister of State for External Affairs reportedly said the protestors were “not farmers, they are hooligans.”.

Union minister Meenakshi Lekhi said the opposition was promoting such activities while talking about an alleged attack on a media person during the ‘Farmers’ Parliament’ at the Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

Calling the protests ‘criminal act’ she said  ‘what happened on January 26 in New Delhi was shameful.

The farmers were joined by Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, during their gathering near the Parliament premises.

Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait, who is leading the coalition of protestors, hit out at Lekhi and said farmers are annadatas’ and to call them such names is inappropriate.
