Hathras Case: Accused’s Supporters Ask Why No Narco Test For Victim’s Family?
Few of the locals believe that the accused men in the Hathras gang-rape case are not guilty and the victim’s family should also be ready for a drug test.
The gang-rape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit girl in Hathras has shocked the nation. People are demanding strict punishment for the culprits. A leading news channel has spoken to the locals of the village. The villagers are saying that those who are guilty in this case should be punished. Though, few of the locals believe that the accused men in the case are not guilty. They are saying that if the accused are ready for the narco test, then why is the victim’s family denying it? The family members of Hathras gang-rape victim on Sunday (October 4) refused to undergo narco test.
The family said such a test should be used on perpetrators of the crime and not on those who had been wronged. Members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the case, visited the family again on Monday (October 5). The SIT’s proposal for a narco test on the victim’s kin drew sharp reaction from across the political and legal spectrum. Senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan said: “As per the Supreme Court, no one can be forced to take a narco test. A narco test is akin to torture and is totally unconstitutional. The CM and his SIT continue to mock the rule of law.”
