Gopalganj Bridge Collapse: Tejashwi Yadav Asks Was Nitish Kumar Govt In Hurry?
The Bihar bridge collapse has now triggered a political row between Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav.
A portion of the Sattarghat bridge on Gandak river in Bihar’s Gopalganj collapsed on Wednesday (July 15), a month after it was inaugurated by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The bridge collapse has now triggered a political row in the state. Opposition leader from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Tejashwi Yadav, “After eight years of work, the Sattarghat bridge was finally opened 29 days ago. The bridge cost Rs 264 crore. Did the Chief Minister open the bridge in a hurry to get accolades? We want the company that built this bridge to be blacklisted immediately.”
However, Bihar Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav has said, “The approach slab that has collapsed is two kilometres from the main Sattarghat bridge. No damages have been caused to any bridge. Just the approach slab of a minor bridge has collapsed.” As the water level rose in the Gandak river due to heavy rainfall, a portion of the bridge reportedly collapsed and was washed away. This happened only a month after the Chief Minister inaugurated the bridge with much fanfare.
