Ghaziabad-based journalist, Vikram Joshi, who was shot in the head in front of his two daughters, has succumbed to his injuries in hospital. The chilling footage of the incident was captured on CCTV camera and nine accused have so far been arrested by the police. Moreover, two policemen have also been suspended following the incident. Joshi had earlier tried to file a complaint alleging that his niece was being harassed but it was only converted into an FIR a day later. Police claim that the arrested are the same men against whom the complaint was filed.
Joshi’s family alleges that he had called Sub-Inspector Raghvendra two hours before getting shot. “The sub-inspector, Raghvendra, has been suspended for dereliction of duty with immediate effect. The role of the Vijay Nagar SHO is also under probe to ascertain if other police officers were complicit in the alleged delay. A report has been sought, which will be submitted within the next 24 hours. The report will fix responsibility of the incident and action will be taken accordingly,” said Praveen Kumar, IG (Meerut Range).
